Hare Wood Estate, Singlefile Wines, Forest Hill, Rockcliffe & Lake House Denmark
Forest Hill Vineyard was the first to be established in the region, dates to 1965 Originally it was planted by the Department of Agriculture as an experiment in diversification, on land leased from Tony and Betty Pearse for 10 years.
The oldest vineyard in the cool climate regions of the Great Southern appellation of Western Australia, this family owned, dry grown enterprise consistently produces acclaimed wines.
Denmark Wine Tours visits Hare Wood Estate owner winemaker James Kellie was fortunate to land his dream winemaking job at the renowned Howard Park in the Great Southern.
In 1998, whilst at Howard Park, James Kellie started making wine on contract for Harewood. In 2003 he and his family took the plunge to purchase Harewood Estate. A nerve-racking time pursued to build a 300-tonne winery.
While making a serious commitment to develop sub-regional wines that showcased the varietals of the Great Southern.
A recipience of 31 national and international awards, The coveted 5 Red Star Rating from influential wine critic James Halliday which is awarded to the top 5% of Australian wineries for “a consistent record of excellence”.
Singlefile Wines is a family affair Phil and Viv Snowden with their daughter Pam and son-in-law Patrick Corbett leaving their successful careers came together to grow a respected winery and this has been primarily due to the outstanding team that is assisting the founders in turning their vision into reality.
Quality comes first and the outcome has been realized by a minimal intervention approach in both the vineyard and the winery.

And the Rockcliffe winery and vineyard business, formerly known as Matilda’s Estate, is owned by someone who is aware of and understands the wider world and their place in it Dr Steve Hall. Takes an active role in the community
